One research area of CMRR revolves around the development of innovative neuromodulation strategies for deep brain stimulation (DBS) and spinal cord stimulation (SCS), with the goal of achieving improved efficiency and selectivity. In addition, we use fMRI as a monitoring tool for assessment of brain network activity during the stimulation paradigms.  In this research area, we also develop patient-specific anatomical models using high-resolution MRI scans. These models allow for the visualization of anatomical targets, parcellation of their functional territories, and their connectivity with other nodes in the network. We also use post-surgery CT scans to accurately determine the location of the DBS lead, its individual contacts, and the spatial orientation of the directional segments. This information is essential for accurate DBS targeting, understanding the effects of DBS on brain function, optimizing the settings of the DBS device, and tracking the effects of DBS over time.
